Math Brush-Up Workshops

Math Brush-Up Workshops Flyer

Brush-up Workshops resume Monday, October 7 through Wednesday, December 11.

All workshops will be held at the Zoom link:  https://highline.zoom.us/j/7705583520

  • Mondays   3 -5 p.m.
  • Tuesdays 10 a.m. – 12 noon
  • Wednesdays 12 noon to 2 p.m.

At Highline, we have various ways to place you into math classes: high school transcripts, SBA, SAT/ACT, IB/AP scores, prior college work, GED scores, and more.

If any of these methods work for you, bring documents to the Entry Advising Center: Building 6, top floor OR email entryadvising@highline.edu.

If you cannot use one of the methods above you may need to take Informed Math Placement (IMP) for math placement.

If advised by Entry Advising to take Informed Math Placement (IMP), follow the steps below:

Informed Math Placement

Find the Best Math Class for You

Choosing the best math class is important as you start your college journey. Informed Math Placement will help you choose the class that fits your skills, and guide you toward courses to reach your academic goals.

What to Expect

Informed Math Placement is a tool that will ask you questions about math.

You will be asked:

  1. Questions about yourself and your math experience.
  2. How you feel about some math topics?
  3. How you feel about the same topics after seeing solutions?

This is NOT a test. Rather, it is a survey to help us place you into a class where you can thrive and succeed.

After You Finish

One to two business days after you finish, you’ll get an email with your math placement. Then, talk with an entry advisor about what to do next.

If you’re unsure of what you want to major in, read about different Degree Pathways before you talk to an entry advisor.

Before You Start

  1. Find a quiet place with good internet. Use Chrome or Firefox browsers if you can. The survey takes about 20 minutes. You can only do this survey once, so answer carefully.
  2. Have paper and a pencil ready to write notes or do math.
  3. Answer all questions honestly. If you’re not sure, go with your first thought.

Remember, this is not a test. Being HONEST helps us find the best math class for you.
